A Guide to Buying Ladies' Wedding Bands

Ladies wedding rings

Buying wedding rings can just seem like another thing to tick off the list when planning a wedding but in reality, it is much more important than that. A wedding ring will be worn for life so it is important to invest the just amount of time into finding the right one.

Buying Wedding Rings

A major consideration is to decide if you want the ladies wedding ring to match the engagement perfectly or if you want them to be complements of each other. You then should decide if a plain or diamond set band is more your style. The ring should be made in the metal of your engagement ring, whether it be 18k white, gold or rose gold or platinum. Finally, you need to consider the shape of your engagement ring as if you want the wedding band to sit flush, you may need to have it shaped around the engagement ring.

Diamond Set Wedding Bands

What is usually done when it comes to diamond set bands is that if your engagement ring's band is already diamond set, you simply match the two. If your engagement ring has a plain band, you can decide which style of diamond set suits best.
  1. Pave Set- this is when the diamonds are set very closely together and gives the illusion of a continuous diamond surface
  2. Channel Set- this is when the diamonds are held in by a narrow 'channel' of metal which partially covers each side.
  3. Claw Set- this is when diamonds are most exposed as they are only held in by four claws across the band.

Choosing A Wedding Ring

There is no set way on what wedding band works best with your engagement ring but these are just some recommendations:
If your engagement ring is a real statement piece, it is sometimes nice to go for a plain band so as to keep the engagement ring the focus. This is applicable if you have say, a double halo or a multi-stone. For a solitaire, it is more up to you and there is no set match but when it comes to a side stone, it is, for the majority of the time, best to match the rings.

Looking After Your Engagement Ring

As we all know,  engagement rings are big investment and should be treasured for life. However, this is difficult to do if you don't know the correct procedures that keep your ring sparkling and like new! This is why we have devised this blog ~ to make this maintenance as easy as possible for you.

Cleaning Your Ring

Halo Engagement Rings

Although rings need to be polished/plated by a goldsmith (approximately) annually, there are ways for you to keep up the shine yourself in the meantime. You soak the ring in warm water and mild washing up liquid and clean around the diamond using a soft bristle toothbrush. You then rinse the ring under warm running water, making sure the sink stopper is in to avoid a disaster!

When to Remove Your Ring

There are instances where it is necessary to not wear your ring to avoid damage. For example, if you are swimming, exercising or cleaning the house with chemical-based products, you should remove your ring to prevent any damage. There are many times when it is beneficial for the engagement ring to be removed to avoid damaging it. Some people remove the ring when they sleep as the ring can get caught in the sheets but the risk associated with this is not as great. It is also advised to remove the ring when applying make-up as moisturiser, primer and foundation can all get caught under the diamond, within the setting, dulling the shine.

Engagement Ring Insurance

It is very important to insure your engagement ring in case of a worse case scenario. The simplest way to insure your ring is by talking to your bank and adding the ring to your home and contents insurance but you can also insure it independently with an independent jewellery insurance company. As diamond prices are constantly changing it is essential to get your ring reappraised every 5 years to ensure the cost would still be covered.

Engagement Rings Limerick - A Bespoke Designed Engagement Ring

Engagement Rings Limerick:

For the modern day couple, it can be quite common for the guy to propose with a promise ring so that he can allow his future fiance to have an input on her engagement ring once he gets the all important yes! This was the case for one of our couples, Kevin and Lucy. The couple who were born and raised in Limerick set out to find Lucy her perfect engagement ring. Unfortunately due to Lucy's specific taste they found it difficult to come across anything of real substance. Lucy was looking for a vintage inspired engagement ring. She was not fond of actual antiques as she found they were not practical for everyday use nor was she a fan of modern styles.

From Limerick To Dublin, Making The Right Decision:

After reading some of our reviews and seeing that we offered a Bespoke option herself and Kevin decided to make the journey from Limerick to our Dublin based store. While looking through our extensive range Lucy's eyes lit up when she saw HD035, the 'vintage inspired engagement ring' she had her heart set on. After a few tweaks were made to suit the couples budget the couple headed back home to Limerick while our design team went and created her perfect engagement ring.

Back To Limerick With The Perfect Engagement Ring:

Due to work commitments Lucy was unable to make it up to Dublin from Limerick through the four week process. Our team kept her up to date via email, phone calls and sent on rendered images of how the ring would look right throughout the design process. The couple then made the final journey up to Dublin from Limerick to collect the finished piece. Lucy was elated and loved that she could 'add her own unique touch' to the ring.
